At Mercedes-Benz of Eugene, we’re often asked about the Mercedes-Benz logo meaning. The Mercedes-Benz 3-pointed star was created as a nod to its history. Learn more about the Mercedes-Benz logo, including the AMG® logo, with Mercedes-Benz of Eugene.

Mercedes-Benz Logo Origins

Before we explain the Mercedes-Benz logo meaning, let’s go back in time to 1890, when Gottlieb Daimler created the luxury brand auto company called Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft, now known as DMG. The company was handed over to Wilhelm Maybach and Emil Jellinek later that year, but Daimler’s two sons, Paul and Adolf, stayed heavily involved. Paul and Adolf designed the Mercedes-Benz logo in 1909 when they remembered a postcard sent by their father in 1872 that had marked their home’s location with a 3-pointed star. A short while after that, DMG declared the Mercedes-Benz 3-pointed star as their now legendary emblem.

Mercedes-Benz Logo Colors Throughout History

During the first 15 years, the Mercedes-Benz logo was blue. It wasn’t until 1926 that it underwent its first revision, and they added a laurel border around the outside. The Mercedes-Benz 3-pointed star was changed to silver in 1934 and hasn’t changed much since then,

Meaning of the Mercedes-Benz 3-Pointed Star

Today, the Mercedes-Benz logo represents its rich heritage, which originated with one man with a dream to engineer some of the world’s best-performing automobiles. Springfield customers sometimes ask us if the Mercedes-Benz logo meaning is merely a symbol of the Daimler sons’ loyalty to their father or if there’s more to it. The Mercedes-Benz 3-pointed star symbolizes the luxury brand’s ambition for universal motorization. Each point of the Mercedes-Benz 3-pointed star represents a facet of the environment:

  • Land
  • Sea
  • Air

The Daimler brothers believed that DMG would one day develop luxury transportation for all three elements.

What Is the Mercedes-Benz AMG® Logo About?

The Mercedes-Benz AMG® logo is a bit more detailed than the traditional Mercedes-Benz 3-pointed star. As fascinating as it might be to entertain the idea of the Mercedes-Benz AMG® logo being a secret map or a type of cryptic symbol, the truth isn’t very mysterious:

  • The right portion of the Mercedes-Benz AMG® logo is a cam, valve, and valve spring, which are three essential engine components. They symbolize the dedication to ingenious engineering that is used to design every Mercedes-Benz AMG® vehicle.
  • The Mercedes-Benz AMG® logo’s left side is more visually dynamic: an apple tree perched beside a river. But it’s not just some randomly chosen, tranquil scene. It’s a historical coat of arms of the town of Affalterbach, Germany, where the Mercedes-Benz AMG® headquarters is now located.
