Coming Soon: 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE
The first midsized luxury SUV for Mercedes-Benz is about to get a serious makeover.
Coming later this year is the 2020 GLE.
It starts with a new body and platform designed to incorporate the latest technology ensuring the best ride quality overall. That new technology comes in the form of E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL. This new suspension system is the world’s most intelligent SUV system, powered by a 48-volt battery and electric system. One feature in the E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL is a Road Surface Scan feature that maps the road ahead and makes adjustments in the suspension for a smoother ride overall. Off-road capability is also enhanced by a Free-Driving mode that allows for automatic height adjustment to offset road conditions away from the tarmac. New driver assistance systems and Active Stop-and-Go adds to the experience of driving efficiently and safely.
For the first time, the GLE will feature a third-row seat. This means more people can enjoy the ride in Mercedes-Benz’s mid-sized SUV than ever. Infotainment is through the intuitive Mercedes-Benz User Experience with voice control through a new 12.3-inch touchscreen interface. This system includes the new Interior Assistant, which reads hand and arm gestures to control several aspects of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience. Next to the infotainment screen is an equally impressive 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that is customizable for the readouts drivers may need.
Above the seats is a larger panoramic sliding sunroof, providing a 50% larger viewing area than in the current GLE. A 4-Zone Automatic Climate Control ensures that everyone can stay cool or warm, depending on the time of year. Inductive wireless charging is more convenient for device users to keep going without any loss in battery power.
Two engines will be available on the 2020 GLE. In the GLE 350, a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine will produce 255 horsepower with 273 lb-ft of torque. For the GLE 450 4MATIC®, a new 3.0-liter turbocharged in-line six-cylinder engine adds EQ Boost for an impressive 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. These two engines will be connected to a new 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic with available 4MATIC® all-wheel-drive.
Pricing for the 2020 GLE starts with an MSRP of $53,700 for the GLE 350. The top of the line GLE 450 with the EQ Boost starts at $61,500. Mercedes-Benz of Eugene expects to have our first new 2020 GLE models by this summer.
